Apple introduced MagSafe in 2020 with a precise magnet array that locks accessories in a specific orientation. Aftermarket cases vary wildly in how closely they replicate this.
The cheap-case problem
Low-cost magnetic cases often use a single ring magnet rather than the full MagSafe array. They will hold a wallet — barely — but car mounts and chargers will not align properly, and you lose the fast 15W wireless charging speed.
What we look for
Full 18-magnet array, N52-grade neodymium, and at least 1500g of holding force on a vertical surface. Anything less is just a magnet on a case, not a real MagSafe replacement.
